Exucses: A Girl, Stop Apologizing Book Review Series

Guys, Rachel Hollis has a new book!  If you read "Girl, Wash Your Face" this is a great companion book.  It's called "Girl, Stop Apologizing."  This book is split up into 3 parts and has, as Rachel says, "the tools to change your life."  Today I'm going to talk a little bit about my thoughts on "Part One: Excuses To Let Go Off."  Rachel starts her newest self help book off with 9 excuses we all come up with to not chase a goal.

That's Not What Other Women Do

My pal Rach (we're Facebook friends so I get to call her that lol) starts off the book by saying we need to take ownership of what we do.  Whether it be photography, work, or writing a blog like me, we are not all little robots, we are each unique people.  We are not going to all fit in the same cookie cutter mold.  She says if you want something, stop thinking about it not being "what other people do" and reach for it.

I'm Not a Goal-Oriented Person

This chapter is dedicated to people who believe this particular excuse.  Right off the bat she hits us with the fact that we didn't start out in this world knowing everything.  We had to learn everything up until this point and we are constantly learning everyday.  "Dreams are things you hope for, for your life," she says and she means everything.  Everything from feeling tired all the time to going back to school to starting your own business.  The truth is, goals can be simple little things you want to change in your everyday life as well as a big goal.

I Don't Have Time

Here Rach tackles our (or at least my) biggest excuse, "I don't have the time."  She literally slaps us upside the head and tells us if we want something, we need to MAKE the time.  For me, personally, I am going back to school, May 13th classes start.  I will need to make the time in my schedule to study and test.  Which means I need to not spend my down time just watching TV and crack a book open instead.  She suggests we plan our months monthly and weeks weekly.

I'm Not Enough to Succeed

We all have insecurities and Rachel is no different.  She lays some of them out in this chapter and how she overcame them.  In order to chase a dream you need to figure out what works for you to ease your insecurities.  Rachel encourages us to give ourselves credit for the things that we have done, because without those things we wouldn't be us.

I Can't Pursue My Dream and Still Be a Good Mom/Daughter/Employee etc.

Rachel yells at us, well speaks strongly to us, in this chapter.  She wants us to "get it."  More specifically that this is our insecurity talking, not our true self.  She tells us to be selfish, well actually shared that her dad tells us to be selfish.  Take this one for you.

I'm Terrified of Failure

People, I am too!  So is the author of this book.  This shouldn't hold us back.  Rachel tells us to let our haters watch, even if we fail.  If we fail, we learn something.  She openly shares her story of failure and letting the world watch.  Rach spins failure in a way that gives us the motivation to show others what grit and determination looks like.

It's Been Done Before

In this chapter Rachel lets us know that EVERYTHING has been done before.  Hey, take me for example.  I'm going back to school at 34.  Its been done before by many people, but not by me.  Thats her point, YOU haven't done it before, so do it now!

What Will They Think?

I'm going to tell you what I love about Rachel.  Her saying is "other people's opinions are NONE of YOUR business."  This chapter even includes a cute little flow chart.  Seriously though, listen to my pal Rach here!  Any opinion not given to you out of love, is not meant to serve you.

Good Girls Don't Hustle

OMG this chapter starts off with a Jay-Z quote.  It puts emphasis on the fact that women have societal expectations to be great but then take time off to be a good mom.  Rachel says screw that (basically) you can do all the things you want to do and still be a good mom!
