The Joys of Dog Ownership

Who here has pets?  I have one very rambunctious Australian Shepherd named Bear.  When he is bad he gets full named "Theodore Bear," and he just knows he's in trouble.  He may be hard to handle sometimes but he's the light of my life.

Bear came to me in a different way than most people get dogs.  My friend, Lisa, knew I was in the market for a canine companion so one day she showed up with him.  She had gone to the animal shelter and hand picked this ball of fur just for me.  I took him home for an overnight trial, and never looked back.

His history at the time was unknown to me, but come to find out he was rescued from a garage where he lived, by himself, for who knows how long.  It was love a first sight.  They told me he was about 3 or 4 at the shelter, but the 4 pairs of shoes he ate seemed to differ from that assumption.

I love coming home to this furry, excited creature.  He's always happy to see me, I suspect its because I feed him.  But seriously, dogs in general help my anxiety.  When I feel an attack coming on I can always look to Bear to help.  Even if his version on "help" is smothering me.  It is cheaper than a weighted blanket, I guess.

Bear gets me out of the house on beautiful, sunshine-y days.  He's my adventure buddy, my sidekick, and my lazy bones dog.  In the spring/summer we go on 4 mile walks, to the beach, and on car rides.  As long as he's by my side, I know I'm not alone.

Now that I'm done blabbering about Bear, lets talk about why you need a dog in your life.  If your single its the perfect conversation starter, plus if you have a bad date you won't be going home alone.  Dogs are a great way to teach children responsibility.  They can feed, water, exercise, and groom them.  Dogs love you no matter what.  Having a bad day?  Your furry friend still loves you and will cuddle and give you kisses.

Unconditional love, that's what dogs give you!

Stay tuned!
