I Love Jesus, But I Cuss A Little

I recently read the Bible verse from James Chapter 2, verse16.

"If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless."

Now I know what most of you are thinking.  "OMG, I swear like a sailor!  I guess that negates my religious values."  Trust me I thought the same after reading this verse.  Vulgar language is just that, vulgar.  I mean there are some many other ways we can express ourselves verbally.  Sometimes it's just more satisfying to use a cuss word.

I get it, though.  When you open your mouth and a cuss word comes out, its so much easier to be tempted to use more.  That word opens up a whole new world of language.  It makes it so much easier to use hate speech and degrade and judge others.  And soon using all this language will begin to taint your mind and heart.

Trust me, I'm constantly learning to watch my tongue.  Its hard.  But as I am more aware of what I say, I become more aware of how I say things.  Especially when it comes to degrading others.  I say or type things about another person that are mean or hurtful, and now I'm more aware and edit myself.

Judging people is not something we are supposed to do.  That's God's job.  We are supposed to love one another and treat each other with respect and kindness.  I've noticed in more recent years, with the expansion of online chats and social media, that people are extremely quick to judge others and speak badly about them. Is this because we don't actually have to be face to face to talk with another person?

I've seen children as little as 11 years old as well as full grown adults say hateful things on social media.  Honestly its just disgusting the direction that this society is going. Why can't we all just love and respect each other?

Stay Tuned!
