A Sunday Reflection -- The Armor of God

I hope you all don't mind that posts on Sundays will have a religious overtone.  Don't care?  Good, because I'm not going to change this. Whether I'm delving into a Bible verse(s) or relating stories to me, everyone needs a little Jesus in their life.

Ephesians 6:13
     "Therefore take up the armor of God, so that you may be able to withstand on that evil day and having done everything to stand firm."

The Armor of God

This verse is letting us know that belief is God is armor for us to do battle in everyday life.  Like a knight preparing for battle we need to put on armor to protect us.  Protect us from the evil in this world so we can stand firm in our belief in God and live the best life we can.  Evil can be something as little as a distraction from the truth of God.

We need to learn the living God is first and foremost.  Only then can we love thy neighbor.  This is also emphasized on the concept of rest.  Every one of us needs rest.  It recharges us.  I personally get distracted easily by thought zipping through my head.  What's your distraction?

How do we rest?  I rest by taking small moments in my daily life to take a few deep breaths and pray.  I live for these small moments to rest my mind.  Rest isn't always sleeping, its taking a few small moments each day to unwind.

Rest can look like something completely different to you.  Is your version of rest a hot bath?  A face mask?  Having a glass of wine at the end of a long day?  Rest is what you make it.  Its a way to quiet your mind from the distractions of the day and focusing on putting your armor back on.

Let's pray together:

Lord,
Help us to overcome fear and selfishness by putting our trust in your loving protection.
Amen.

Who here has pets?  I have one very rambunctious Australian Shepherd named Bear.  When he is bad he gets full named "Theodore Bear," and he just knows he's in trouble.  He may be hard to handle sometimes but he's the light of my life. Equality: A Weigh-in on Protesting for Rights

            I feel called to weigh in on the Black Lives Matter Movement, specifically the “white privilege” that I experience.   I saw a meme the other day and it said: “When a cop pulls me over, I’m always afraid that I’m going to get a ticket.   I’m never afraid that I’m going to get killed.   That’s the difference.”   This is the truth.   No, I’m not saying that all police officers are bad.   I’m not saying that you should fear the people that are doing their jobs to protect and serve.   I’m saying that as a white woman, the only thing I worry about is getting a ticket when being stopped by an officer.   Moreover, my white privilege means I will not be denied a position at a company because of my skin color.   I will not have to think twice about being in a store and worried about being followed because people think I may steal something because of my skin color.   I will not hav...

Just Say Yes

     Wow, has it really been almost a year since I last posted?  A lot has happened.  I spent most of my days at the beach with Bear last summer, I got a 4.0 in the Fall 2020 Semester, I began my second to last semester (I think) at BMCC, COVID still exists, I have become more of a hermit than ever.  Which brings me to the reason for this post.  I am in a Liberal Arts Capstone course this semester at BMCC and one of our assignments this week was to pick a day and say "Yes" to every request that is posed that day.  This was an interesting concept and could offer up more opportunities for growth, networking, and advancement in my desired career.
