Always Say I Love You!

I recently experienced the loss of a friend. Don’t feel sorry for me, instead please pray for comfort for her family and friends. However, it got me asking some tough questions. When was the last time I saw her? When was the last time I reached out to speak with her? What was the last thing I said to her? I’m sure others in her short life are thinking the same. The funny thing is these questions do not pop up any other time than during loss. But I do hope one of the last things I said was “I love you.”             Those three little words hold much power and emotion. Usually, we say it to our romantic loves and family members. Not many of us say “I love you” to our friends. Over the years I have learned that friendship is a form of love. Friends can be there for us in a way our family members cannot. They are there when we need secrets shared, wing-people, shoulders to cry on. Our fr...

Petoskey: A Wine Tour

You know when you’ve just had enough of the same old vacations you take every year?  I know I was.  Back in 2018, some friends and I went wine tasting in Traverse City.  We did the Old Mission Peninsula and had a blast.  We hit about 7 wineries and experienced something new.  After, we were all buzzing about how we needed to do this again and maybe in the summer for one friend’s fortieth birthday.  However, she turned forty in 2020 right in the middle of the pandemic and consequential shutdown. This year we decided to go.  After some research, we decided to do the Old Mission Peninsula again.  As fate would have it, the weekend we wanted to go, all lodging options were full.  We then decide that staying in Petoskey was an option.  Once we secured a room, we changed our minds and thought we should try something new.  See, because one of our group is from Canada and just had a baby this year, she was unable to go.  The other gal ...

Just Say Yes

Wow, has it really been almost a year since I last posted?  A lot has happened.  I spent most of my days at the beach with Bear last summer, I got a 4.0 in the Fall 2020 Semester, I began my second to last semester (I think) at BMCC, COVID still exists, I have become more of a hermit than ever.  Which brings me to the reason for this post.  I am in a Liberal Arts Capstone course this semester at BMCC and one of our assignments this week was to pick a day and say "Yes" to every request that is posed that day.  This was an interesting concept and could offer up more opportunities for growth, networking, and advancement in my desired career. The Plan     So, as I was reflecting over this assignment, I thought, "Crap, there are not a whole lot of requests that I get in a day."  Well, after much thought, I decided that I would say yes to a few requests a day that I normally would not say yes to.  My thought was that after doing...

Equality: A Weigh-in on Protesting for Rights

I feel called to weigh in on the Black Lives Matter Movement, specifically the “white privilege” that I experience.   I saw a meme the other day and it said: “When a cop pulls me over, I’m always afraid that I’m going to get a ticket.   I’m never afraid that I’m going to get killed.   That’s the difference.”   This is the truth.   No, I’m not saying that all police officers are bad.   I’m not saying that you should fear the people that are doing their jobs to protect and serve.   I’m saying that as a white woman, the only thing I worry about is getting a ticket when being stopped by an officer.   Moreover, my white privilege means I will not be denied a position at a company because of my skin color.   I will not have to think twice about being in a store and worried about being followed because people think I may steal something because of my skin color.   I will not hav...

5k's and Tears

So, I found out the 5k I was looking forward to all year was canceled secondary to the COVID-19 crisis (using my medical documentation skills right thurr).  Rock The Locks 5k is put on by our downtown and this year was going to be its second year running.  Last year I ran it as my first 5k and I LOVED it.  You got to run through the Soo Locks Park, down historic Water Street, and around by the Valley Camp Museum Ship.  It started and ended in Brady Park and there was music, dancing, and fun themed runners. After a much-needed cry session, I started thinking.  Just because the race was canceled didn't mean I couldn't run it the best I could alone.  So, the other night I started training.  This was my first outdoor run after it became too dangerous (icy) to run outside last year and let me tell you, the sidewalks have nothing on a treadmill.  It was hard to transition to running outdoors.  No moving belt to keep you propelling forward, no TV ...

Joshua: Deeper Than Jericho

Woohoo!  I bet you guys were wondering what has been going on during quarantine with my Bible Study.  Well, let me just say, thanks to Facebook Messenger we still can video chat and continue our study of the bible.  Since quarantine has disrupted our lives, this small group study is something we all look forward to ending our week and starting our weekend with.  We had started this group with the intent to read the Bible from beginning to end, but life happened and we got stuck at nearly the end of Genesis.  That was when we started skipping around.  I already wrote a post about the short chapter of Jonah (hilarious, if you haven't read it click here).  I then discovered this great bible study companion by Josh Hunt .  This author has many books but so far our favorite to enrich our study time is the "Question-Based Bible Study Guide" series.  These books are pretty much amazing at digging deeper into the different chapters of each book of th...

Supporting Local in My Hometown While Being Essential

Ok, guys.  Let's talk global pandemic for a moment.  This is an uncertain time right now and I know if you're like me, then you may be experiencing some anxiety and fear about the unknown.  When will we be able to get together again?  When will this end?  When will I be able to eat inside my favorite restaurants again?  'Cause, you know... food.  If you're considered essential, like I am, then you understand the struggle of not being able to experience life without fear of getting sick.  You get sick and tired of the monotonous meals you make and bring to work with you every day.  You get sick and tired of not being able to go to your local watering hole or restaurant.  Well, if you're local to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, then below are ways you can support your community and yourselves during this trying time.  Eat & Drink Local! Yes, most of the people in our community either are essential or at home, however, with the pan...
